How to Import and Export Quizlet Flashcards

Your Quizlet sets can come into Qstudy in about a minute, and pick up spaced repetition on the way: each card comes back right before you’d forget it. It works the other way too. Everything moves as plain text you copy and paste, so nothing needs connecting.

Step 1: Open Export in Quizlet

Go to quizlet.com and open the set. Click the ⋯ (three dots) next to the set’s title, then Export.

  • On a phone? Export is on Quizlet’s website, so open quizlet.com in your browser rather than the Quizlet app.
  • No Export option? Quizlet only offers it on sets you created. For a classmate’s set, ask them to export it and send you the text.

Step 2: Copy the text

Leave the settings as they are: Tab between term and definition, New line between rows. Press Copy text. You’ll see the set as one card per line; that is exactly what Qstudy reads.

Step 3: Paste it into Qstudy

In Qstudy, open Flashcards and choose Import from Quizlet. Paste into the box (in the app, the Paste button does it in one tap). To add the cards to a deck you already have, open that deck first and choose Import from Quizlet there instead.

Saved the export as a file, or have a spreadsheet? Upload the .txt or .csv instead of pasting.

Step 4: Check the preview, then import

Qstudy shows how many cards it found and the first few, term on the left and definition on the right. If that matches your set, give the deck a name and press Import. You land in the new deck, ready to study.

Nothing is saved until you press Import. Pasting the same set into the same deck twice won’t duplicate it either.

Step 1: Copy the deck

Open the deck in Qstudy. Under Quizlet, press Copy for Quizlet. (Or Download .txt to keep a file. In the app, Share sends it anywhere.)

Step 2: Create a set in Quizlet and choose Import

On quizlet.com, start a new set (Create → Flashcard set) and click Import near the top.

Step 3: Paste

Paste into Quizlet’s import box. Its defaults, Tab and New line, are the right ones. Check its preview and import.

If something looks wrong

“0 cards found”, or far fewer than the set has
The text uses separators Qstudy didn’t guess. Set Between term and definition and Between cards to whatever you picked in Quizlet’s Export (Tab and New line unless you changed them). The easiest fix is re-exporting from Quizlet with the defaults.
“Some lines couldn’t be read”
Usually a definition that spans several lines in Quizlet: each extra line looks like a card with no definition. Import the rest, then fix those few cards by hand in the deck.
Images and audio didn’t come across
Quizlet’s export is text only, so pictures and recordings stay behind in both directions.
A card with line breaks looks different in Quizlet
A new line would start a new card in Quizlet, so line breaks inside a card are sent as “ / ”.
Very big sets
One import takes up to 2,000 cards. Split a bigger set into a few pastes into the same deck.
